There’s always a first time for everything. This is one of those; I am Emily and this is my story.
Tony and I met for the first time when we were teenagers, it was love at first sight the day we met; I could recall that day, I had gone to the filmhouse with my friends to see a movie; since we got there 30minutes early, my friends left me to explore the mall; it was a big mall with different shops.
I had decided to sit still and wait for them, and then I caught glimpses of Tony staring passionately at me from the other end; he wasn’t really “perfect” like people would say, but something about him struck me..
Tony had the spotless chocolate skin like those tempting candy bars you see in candy shops, his brown eyes were too obvious and did I mention how beautiful they looked? Yes, they looked captivating.
His body was perfectly framed for a boy of his age. At 18years he was already 6fts tall, gosh! Tony was a perfect soul to fall in love with.. We became best of friends from that day, but we never told each other how much love we felt because we were both young, naive and scared.
I was just 15years then, with a slender figure; an average height that gave me hope that I was going to grow taller before my growth stopped.
Fast forward to some years later, time had passed, life had played its cards, and maturity wasn’t left out of the party, everyone seemed to be better and grown.
Emily or Emi as fondly called by my friends, I had relocated from the city I’d known all my life to another city when I was just 16years and because of that I lost contact with my friends and even Tony.
Social media came at the appropriate time and everyone seemed to have gotten an account, and since I was educated and computer savvy, I got an account too.
Tony’s was the first request I got on facebook. On receiving the request, I felt like he was waiting for me all his life on social media. “How did he not forget my name after so long?” I thought to myself.
Though I was surprised, I felt special that someone somewhere never forgot me. At that point , it felt like the words of that cliche “True love never dies” had come to pass in my life.
Although Tony had left the country to continue his studies abroad few years back; we got into communication again and the reconnection revived our old time friendship, everything was renewed, it was like some sort of magic, ‘the awakening of feelings and emotions from our younger days’ we felt the strong urge to be in each others arms…
Although Tony was outside the country, I decided I had finally met my soul mate and because we seemed to fit so perfectly well “I would give anything to be with him.” I said reassuringly to myself.
Our new found relationship was going so well, that despite the fact we had known each other for years, we wanted to start afresh, get acquainted again, like teenagers in love.
Oh, the sweetness of a budding romance! Days passed, Tony and I longed for each other, to talk, to laugh. Love was blooming!
We started seeing a future together, we both wanted to be together, regardless of the distance and time between us. It was going to be a long distance relationship, but we didn’t care, we were committed to being together, so Tony and I were ready to play our parts in making it work.
Finally, it was the summer holidays, the long vacation presented an opportunity for us “the love birds” to spend some quality time together. Since we were both free from school for at least three months, Tony could finally come home, and we couldn’t wait to spend some months together.
All my friends had caught wind of my new romance, and were sceptical about it, because they didn’t think I would ever fall in love; judging from my experiences from past relationships, but I felt wise giving this one a shot, “maybe this relationship would be a breakthrough for me” I thought, and I was determined to show my friends just how much I loved Tony, and he in love with me.
When Tony got to Nigeria, the first person he called was me. Oh how he longed to hear. “My sonorous voice, that voice that could shake the heavens and melt the heart of even the most hardened criminal.” He said to me..
It made me love him more, his praises were just too hard to ignore. The way he made me blush everytime we talked on phone swept me off my feet, you could literally see the sparks in my eyes; I was in love and everyone knew it!
He longed to hold me in his arms, engulf me in a warm embrace like white blood cells would a parasite, he longed to go on long lazy walks by the beach in the sun and enjoy romantic picnics in the shade, Tony just wanted to spend the best times with me; at least he didn’t hide how he felt about me.
The D’day came and we finally met. It was like time stood still that day and the heavens had poured its best gift on us because rain fell, but we danced under the rain like little children; we spent the whole day together laughing.
The reunion seemed like a bliss from heaven, an enchantment from the higher realm of superiority. And from that movie ‘like moment on’, we literally spent everytime together, our constant being together made the bond even stronger. The love was strong and we became inseparable…
This is just the beginning.…
