How well do you believe stories about kids being abused sexually? Are you a rape apologist or you don’t just belong in any category? Believe it or not, there are pedophiles roaming the streets freely without being apprehended after assaulting children.
These pedophiles would stoop to sexually abuse their young victims and move to the next available one. Today, I’d be talking about Child molestation and what it entails.
The definition of child molestation is broader than what most people think. It is a secret crime that involves indecent sexual activities between an adult and a child. But the issue of molestation/rape doesn’t imply to female only; sometimes we forget about the male child and focus only on the girl child, this makes it difficult to get justice for the boy child who is or has been sexually abused.
Different types of molestation:
•Rape
•Exposure of the child to pornography
•Defilement
•Touching the genitals of a child. Etc
As clearly stated, sexual abuse is a crime and it’s punishable by law in most societies. Any sexual contact that lacks consent is illegal regardless of the age of the people involved; a child can not give consent to an adult for sex and even if there is consent, the legal age for young people to consent to sex is 16 and 18years respectively, because the age for consent of sexual acts differs in countries depending on their laws.
Who are the abusers?
Statistics show that about 90% of children who are sexually abused know who their abusers are, while 10% of sexually abused children are abused by total strangers, weird right?
Most of these sexual abusers have a history of child sexual abuse, they tend to prey on children because they are vulnerable and unsuspecting; it’s enough reason to always look out for the welfare of your children/wards because these abusers aren’t far but people who stay close and live normal lives in our society.
It is a known fact that most of the abusers are family members/friends (People who the family trusts).
You can imagine the pains and trauma these kids go through when they’ve been molested; the sad part is that, these kids are scared of coming out to tell their parents/guardians that they’ve been sexually abused.
Where can kids be sexually molested?
There are people who have and will abuse children regardless of the place they are. Sexual assaults could happen in churches, mosques, schools and even at home; that’s why parents are to be extra vigilant about the welfare of their kids because the abusers would take any chance they get.

Sexual molestation is a very serious issue that needs to be tackled in our society and i think those who engage in such act should be punished seriously with no mercy…
